After The War
Over 40 African slaves served in the Plymouth Colony alone, each survivor, was awarded land and their freedom. Making progress, saving our history: New Bedford Whaling Museum,: The Honorable Mayor Scott Lang of New Bedford, co-hosted along with The National President General of S.A.R.'s Dr. Roland Downing,The Cape Verdean Vets, and other supporters "posting of the colors", on April 15, 2006. The Revolutionary War for Independence ended with some Veterans seen as heroes and others forgotten and excluded from history books. These Veterans-- of African American, Cape Verdean, and Native American descent-- faced discrimination, racism, prejudice and hardships.
It is important to note the participation of People of Color in the participation of this nation's freedom. For too long, our stories have been inaccurate and deliberately omitted from the history books.
African American children may struggle with identity and self-esteem issues, not ever knowing that they too are a part of the national fabric of this country.
There were other Founding Fathers who existed and they left an important legacy, as these men were some of the first Veterans of America. The government rewarded these Veterans with freedom and land for their courage and service in combat against British Colonialism. They called this new town, New Guinea.
